The film

Synopsis

The Second Circle, name inspired by the second circle of hell depicted in Dante’s The Divine Comedy, is a haunting examination of sacrifice, spiritual communion and human dignity. Centred in a Siberian remote town, the story focuses on a man who is confronted to experience his father’s death and burial. Forced to organise the traditional isolating process of preparing someone for death, he finds himself bathing his father in the snow in the absence of running water, dressing him, transporting his body... at the time he enters in a spiral of moral internal questions, consequence of the long-established society’s rules.
